Tell us a little about who you are and what you do...

Hi, I'm Roberta Ritson from Wylam, where I study and teach singing.

Just now I am doing a lot of reflective writing and giving fewer singing lessons (teaching on zoom is still a happy experience). I am allowing myself to be formed into a creative, inclusive, well-read, female minister. I hope eventually to serve the United Reformed Church. Labels, though, are just that, labels.....

What does success mean to you, right now?

Thinking about myself a lot less in order to be and do more.

What do you love about what you do?

I love all that I do. The various strands fit well together: whether listening to people's stories or songs or delving deep into received wisdom, I would hope to help them become more authentic, curious, present and alive.

I have especially enjoyed writing an essay on spiritual direction. Everything is spiritual if we take notice.

What do you find most challenging?

What I find challenging is singing and speaking in public myself! You know, I've 'chosen' pathways where I am forced to find a voice and go well beyond my comfort zone.

Obstacles - coming across people who are closed minded, leaving no room for doing things differently or asking difficult questions.

What's your biggest achievement(s) to date?

Balancing many different challenges this year and not being crushed by sadness in the wider family.

What are your hopes and dreams for future success and happiness?

Being fully present, being real, serving and 'making music' in ways that channel and build up personal strengths. That's subversive power!
